FAQ

Is MedReminder really free?

Yes. MedReminder is free forever under the Apache License 2.0. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase, and no "pro" tier.

Which Windows versions are supported?

Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11, 64-bit. Older Windows versions are not supported.

Do I need a Microsoft account or internet connection?

No account. The internet is only needed for optional features: email alerts, the update check and catalogue download (at startup and once a day; one setting, can be turned off), backups and sync through OneDrive or Google Drive, and the upload of cloud-folder backups, which your own sync app performs.

Where is my data stored?

Only on your PC, in a local database in your Windows user folder. Nothing is uploaded to a server we control, because we do not run one. If you turn on a cloud backup or sync, only encrypted files go to your own OneDrive, Google Drive or shared folder.

Can several people use one installation?

Yes. MedReminder supports multiple profiles, each with its own data and optional PIN.

Can I use MedReminder on two PCs?

Yes. Tools → Sync… keeps one profile up to date on several PCs through OneDrive, Google Drive or a shared folder; every PC joins the group with the same sync passphrase, and the data in the shared location is encrypted. To share the whole family setup (profiles, roles, PINs, email account, backup), an administrator also uses Tools → Installation…; one master PC then sends the emails.

How do I move to a new PC?

On the old PC, open Settings → Backup / Restore → Export all data (encrypted)… and choose a passphrase. On the new PC, use Import from export… with the same passphrase. The file works across Windows accounts. Alternatively, if you use the cloud-folder backup, set the same backup passphrase on the new PC and use Restore from cloud folder…

Does MedReminder contact my doctor?

No. It prepares a prescription request that you copy or send yourself; nothing is sent without your action.

Is the app a medical device?

No. MedReminder is a stock and schedule tracker. It does not calculate dosages or give therapy advice. Talk to your doctor for every medical decision.

What if Windows SmartScreen blocks the download?

MedReminder and its MSI installer are code-signed with a Certum certificate. Until the certificate has built up reputation, Windows may still show "Windows protected your PC" on the first launch: click More info, then Run anyway; Windows remembers the choice. The MSI permission window shows the verified publisher. Each release also lists the SHA-256 checksums of its files in SHA256SUMS.txt.
